Art and Our Community
Who is it aimed at?
Art and Community is aimed at adults with learning disabilities who are interested in engaging creatively with the local community.
What actually happens in the session?
These sessions enable the participants to explore their community and its history working with other community groups whenever possible. Participants are encouraged to respond to themes, events, and places of interest to inspire individual interpretations which are developed through imagining, drawing painting, printing photography and making. Work produced will be exhibited publicly to promote a positive image of people with learning disabilities and their achievements in the community.
Importance is placed on encouraging positive and productive relationships through team work. We also aim to increase participant’s self-awareness as well as empathy for others, to develop understanding of their community and local issues.
