Who is it aimed at?

Art and Community is aimed at adults with learning disabilities who are interested in engaging creatively with the local community.

This group also maintains our Superstar Garden at the back of our shop and print studio at 31 South Street.
We grow the plants for sale in our shop, which participants help to run.

What actually happens in the session?

These sessions enable the participants to explore their community, working with other community groups whenever possible. Participants are encouraged to respond to themes, events, and places of interest to inspire individual interpretations which are developed through imagining, drawing painting, printing photography and making. Work produced will be exhibited publicly to promote a positive image of people with learning disabilities and their achievements in the community.

Participants are also encouraged to take part in seasonal gardening activities.

Importance is placed on encouraging positive and productive relationships through team work. We also aim to increase participant’s self-awareness as well as empathy for others, to develop understanding of their community and local issues.
